Service Description

This course features 6 weekly classes in clay handbuilding for adults. Classes meet on Wednesdays from 3 to 5 pm. Students will learn how to make everything from coiled pots and lattice baskets to slab-built boxes, mugs, and tiles. Various methods of assembly will include use of the studio slab roller and clay extruder (a glorified play-doh machine!) along with various molds, forms, and cutting tools. Decoration including slip painting, sgraffito, carving, and glazing will also be explored in this class, designed for persons with little or no experience in ceramic art. Class fee includes clay, firing, use of studio tools, and decorative materials, plus student choice of one 4-hour practice session per week (Mon 5-9pm or Sat 12-4pm). Registration required 2 hours in advance for weekly practice sessions. Instructor: Polly Beach.
